Oud Hindi
The classic Indian wood. Strong on the opening, then warm and long. The grade older buyers grew up on.
Hindi is the reference point. For a generation of buyers in the Gulf it is what oud is supposed to smell like, and everything else gets measured against it.
It opens strong and does not apologise for it. There is a deep, animal note in the first minute that not everyone takes to straight away, and underneath it the wood is warm, sweet and very long.
If you find the lighter grades too polite, this is the one to ask for.
